The Payments Fraud team at Delivery Hero built a new platform to answer in real-time a simple question for their millions of orders around the globe: is this payment fraudulent or not? Among many components, this platform serves Machine Learning Models, for which I had the privilege of helping to construct. Building your own platform is always hard but represents a unique opportunity to shape the capabilities, processes, and UX exactly the way you think might fit better your team and the problem you are trying to solve.

Most of the hard work was done by the brilliant Software Engineers at DH, while I acted mostly as a “very annoying hands-on user,” the sort of user who will click everywhere on your app until it breaks (but also helps you to fix it). As a DS, I am trained to be the one building and listening to a user, who in most cases is from a business area. I have never been on the other side of the relationship before, and to be honest it was not as easy as I initially thought.
